Shopify Store Redesign Cost in 2026: Real Price Ranges

A Shopify store redesign costs $1,200–3,000 for a restyle of your current theme, $3,000–8,000 for a full redesign on a premium theme, and $8,000–15,000 for a custom design built from scratch. Shopify Plus redesigns with custom checkout or B2B run $15,000–30,000. Timelines are 1–2 weeks, 3–6 weeks, and 6–12 weeks respectively. Those numbers assume a $30–50/hr specialist rate — a US/UK agency quoting the same scope at $90–150/hr lands 2–3× higher for identical output. Most "redesign cost" pages give you a $5,000–100,000 range and a contact form. This one gives you the actual line items, what moves the number up, the costs that never make it into the first quote, and an honest section on when a redesign is the wrong purchase entirely.

What a Shopify redesign costs in 2026

Type of redesign Cost Hours Timeline What you get
Restyle of your current theme $1,200–3,000 25–100 1–2 weeks New colour, type, spacing, hero and PDP layout on the theme you already own. No data migration.
Redesign on a premium theme $3,000–8,000 60–265 3–6 weeks New theme, custom sections, rebuilt PDP and collection templates, content moved across.
Custom design from scratch $8,000–15,000 160–500 6–12 weeks Figma design for every template, then a theme built to it. Nothing off the shelf.
Shopify Plus redesign $15,000–30,000 300–1,000 8–14 weeks All of the above plus checkout extensibility, B2B catalogs or multi-market setup.

The hours column is there on purpose. Any redesign quote is a bet on a number of hours multiplied by a rate — if an agency will not tell you either number, you cannot tell whether you are paying for work or for their office. Our rate is $30–50/hr, the same rate as on our Shopify Plus agency pricing page, and the same one behind every fixed estimate we send.

What actually moves the price

Two stores asking for "a redesign" can be $1,500 apart or $12,000 apart. These are the variables that decide which:

  • Number of unique templates. Home, PDP, collection, cart, about, contact is six. Add a lookbook, a store locator, a size-guide system and a blog index and you have doubled the design and build surface.
  • Product page complexity. A simple PDP is a day. Variant-driven imagery, bundles, subscriptions, a made-to-order configurator or size-based pricing are each several days of work on their own.
  • Catalog size. 50 products is a copy-paste. 5,000 products with inconsistent metafields means data cleanup before design work can even start.
  • Where the design comes from. Adapting a premium theme is fastest. A Figma file from your own designer needs a build-feasibility pass — beautiful designs routinely contain elements Shopify sections cannot do cheaply. Design-from-scratch by us is the most expensive path and the only one with no compromises.
  • Integrations that must survive. Reviews, loyalty, subscriptions, ERP, PIM, 3PL. Every app with a theme footprint has to be re-embedded and re-tested in the new theme.
  • Content readiness. If copy and photography are ready, the build runs to schedule. If not, the project stalls — and stalled projects are what turn a 4-week estimate into a 4-month invoice.

The costs that are not in the quote

These are the ones that surprise people at the end of a redesign, so plan for them at the start:

  • Copywriting — $300–1,500 if you do not have it in-house. New layouts almost always need new copy lengths.
  • Photography and video — a new design assumes assets that match it. Reusing old product shots is the most common reason a finished redesign still looks cheap.
  • Speed recovery — $900–2,500. A visually richer theme is a heavier theme. See Shopify speed optimization: we take stores from 35 to 90+ PageSpeed, and it is far cheaper to budget this alongside the redesign than to discover it after launch.
  • Redirects and SEO continuity — if URLs or handles change, every old path needs a 301. This is the single most expensive thing to get wrong: stores routinely lose a chunk of organic traffic for months after a redesign, purely from unmapped URLs and lost structured data.
  • App subscriptions — a redesign often replaces three paid apps with native sections, which saves money, or introduces two new ones, which does not. Ask which before signing.
  • Post-launch fixes — budget 10–15% of project cost for the first month. Real traffic finds things QA does not.

When a redesign is the wrong purchase

We turn down redesign projects fairly often, because the money is better spent elsewhere. Be honest about which of these is you:

  • Your conversion rate is the problem, not your looks. If traffic is fine but checkout leaks, a $300–1,500 CRO audit will find the fix. A redesign that does not address the leak just repaints it.
  • The store is slow. A 6-second load time kills more revenue than a dated hero image. Fix speed first — it is cheaper and the effect is measurable within days.
  • You are about to replatform anyway. Redesigning right before a migration means paying for the same work twice. See Shopify migration services.
  • You have no traffic yet. A beautiful store with 200 visitors a month is a $10,000 answer to a marketing question.
  • Only one stakeholder is bored of the design. "It feels dated to me" is not a business case. Heatmaps and session recordings cost nothing and will tell you whether customers agree.

How we quote a redesign

Every project is a fixed estimate agreed before work starts, priced against $30–50/hr behind the scenes. The scoping call covers your templates, catalog, integrations and content state; the estimate that follows breaks out design, build, integrations and QA as separate lines, so you can cut scope knowingly instead of receiving one number to accept or reject.

We run an AI-augmented workflow for PM, development and QA, which is why estimates come back in days rather than weeks, and why our rate sits at specialist-boutique level while output matches agencies charging three times more. All work is QA-tested on a development theme before anything touches your live store, and the code stays in your repo.

You can click through live stores we have built — JOYFOLIE, HEADPHONE ZONE, RINFIT, MODERNO KIDS and the rest of our case list — on a phone, which is the only review of an agency that cannot be faked. If you are still comparing firms, our guide to choosing a Shopify development agency lays out the criteria, including how to check us.

Shopify Redesign Cost FAQ

How much does it cost to redesign a Shopify store?

$1,200–3,000 to restyle your existing theme, $3,000–8,000 for a full redesign on a premium theme, and $8,000–15,000 for a custom design built from scratch. Shopify Plus redesigns involving checkout extensibility or B2B run $15,000–30,000. The spread comes down to how many unique templates you need and how complex your product pages are.

How long does a Shopify redesign take?

A theme restyle takes 1–2 weeks, a premium-theme redesign 3–6 weeks, and a full custom redesign 6–12 weeks. The build is rarely the bottleneck — waiting on copy, photography and stakeholder feedback is what extends timelines.

Will a redesign hurt my SEO?

It can, and this is the most commonly underestimated risk. If handles or URL structure change without a complete 301 redirect map, you lose rankings for months. Structured data, meta titles and internal links also have to be carried across deliberately — they do not migrate with the theme.

Is it cheaper to buy a premium theme or build custom?

A premium theme costs $200–400 and saves several thousand dollars of build time, so it is cheaper for most stores. Build custom when your merchandising genuinely does not fit any theme — configurators, unusual bundling, complex B2B catalogs — not because the theme looks common. Buyers do not recognise themes; they recognise slow and confusing.

Do you redesign without changing our platform or apps?

Yes. A restyle or premium-theme redesign keeps your Shopify plan, your data and your app stack. We re-embed and re-test every app with a theme footprint as part of the build, and flag any that a native section could replace.

What does a redesign cost with a US or UK agency?

Typically 2–3× these numbers, because the rate is $90–150/hr rather than $30–50/hr for comparable Shopify work. See hiring a Shopify developer for the full rate comparison across freelancers, agencies and in-house.
